The BRC4Plants pillar organized a workshop on participatory approaches to genetic resources

Agricultural research is a stakeholder in the open and participatory science movement, in line with society's expectations. Great witnesses came to share their experiences of participatory approaches related to genetic resources. 28 colleagues involved in the BRC4Plants and the great witnesses were able to discuss these initiatives and their own experiences.

From this exploratory workshop, it is clear that BRCs can contribute to this movement.
Why:

  •     To share their expertise, and gain recognition for the GRs available,
  •     Respond to diversifying demands,
  •     To open up to civil society actors and other resource managers,
  •     To improve the characterization and valorization of GR in relation to major societal issues,
  •     Diversifying the use of genetic resources,
  •     To make Science plural

How to:

  •     Co-construct projects, express expectations, within a clear framework for the actors
  •     Feed off feedback, understand the obstacles and opportunities
  •     Combine new skills present in the company
