The Kiara® pear, a 100% French innovation, has won awards

The Kiara® pear, developed through an entirely French partnership between INRAE and CEP INNOVATION, has been awarded the SIVAL d'Or 2026 prize in the varietal innovation category. This variety, the result of twenty years of research at INRAE's Angers site, embodies the excellence of the French fruit industry.

Kiara® stands out for its resistance to fire blight, a devastating disease for orchards, as well as its remarkable taste: melt-in-the-mouth flesh, aromatic and perfectly balanced in sugar and acidity. Its shelf life of up to 6 to 7 months makes it a versatile variety, suitable for both fresh consumption and processing.

Available to all producers without licensing restrictions, Kiara® responds to current climate challenges, particularly thanks to its resistance to suckering. Its commercialisation, launched this winter, is part of a sustainable and competitive agricultural approach, reinforcing French expertise.

The award ceremony took place on 14 January at SIVAL in Angers, celebrating a French innovation that combines performance, accessibility and respect for the environment.

The biological resources preserved by CRB RosePom, a member of the Plant pillar, contributed to this varietal innovation.
