Access to French plant genetic resources : the new version of the Florilège portal

Explore the new version of the Florilège portal, launched in April 2025, which centralises and simplifies access to French plant genetic resources for research and innovation.

Florilège: A Unified and Bilingual Platform for French Agrobiodiversity

Florilège portail

In April 2025, the Florilège portal unveiled a completely redesigned version of its platform dedicated to agrobiodiversity (florilege.arcad-project.org). Integrated into the information system of the Plants pillar of the RARe research infrastructure (agrobrc-rare.org), this portal now provides unified and bilingual (French/English) access to plant genetic resources conserved in mainland France and its overseas territories.

Among the major innovations, Florilège offers a simplified interface that enables users to directly order plant material from the Biological Resource Centres (BRCs) within the network. Through the adoption of the BrAPI standard, tool interoperability is enhanced, ensuring seamless communication between databases and facilitating resource sharing. Additionally, BRC curators have back-office access to update and enrich the presentations of their centres, ensuring that information remains current.

By centralising information and simplifying access to collections, Florilège actively supports the conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity. This initiative meets the needs of researchers and breeders, accelerating the identification of genetic resources adapted to climate and health challenges. In the long term, it could transform agriculture by promoting the development of more resilient and sustainable varieties, thereby reducing dependence on inputs and strengthening food security.

This project was carried out with the financial support of IBISA (2021 calls).
